A "Super"Sized Mess

Heer’s the story at: http://www.wired.com/underwire/2011/04/action-comics-900/
Superman Defies God, Renounces US Citizenship in Action Comics #900

My thoughts ; This story has achieved it's purpose- Generating "buzz" for the character/DC Comics. However, if this is true and not a stunt or wind up being NOT actually Supe's thoughts but a mischievious plot by an outside entity, this can't be good for the upcoming movie.

Superman has proven story after story to be a citizen of the world and NOT just the US or any other political way of thought (minus The Dark Knight Returns or other 'elseworlds' stories). He's never cared before about whether or not his actions were construed as "American policy" or whatever before. He was doing what he thought was the right thing to do. Why should it bother him now? I'm sure if he does go through with it, he'll give a speach loving America and how he sees "the bigger picture" and all. Seriously, isn't this like telling someone you love them and always will before punching them or divorcing them?

To me, this isn't Clark Kent, the boy scout we all know and love (or loathe). If he's not behind this, this has to even make Luthor slightly nervous. All I can say is, something's amiss.

Bruce (Batman), get ready. This may be the start to that instance you were always afraid would happen,

what say you?

DC Comics has announced that as of January, 2011, the publisher wll be decreasing prices on their standard length $3.99 titles to $2.99 citing the long term health of the industry as their reason for the new pricing. Not to be outdone, Marvel Comics (less than an hour after their primary competitor announced an across the board drop) also announced at least a partial move away from the often criticized $3.99 price for new serialized superhero comics. When taking into account mini-series, annuals and specials, more than 80% of DC’s comic books will be priced at $2.99.

Guess Who's Coming To The Small Screen?

Looks like Wonder Woman is returning to television. According to the Hollywood Reporter this weekend, David Kelly of 'Ally McBeal' and 'Boston Legal' fame is creating and going to produce the teleplay. The articl reads "Warner Bros. Television is developing a modern-day reboot of the classic DC comic book heroine and is lassoing an unlikely talent to potentially write and produce the superhero project: David E. Kelley." Kelly produced and created such shows as "Boston Legal", "Picket Fences", and "Chicago Hope."

Happy Monday

Good day! I'm doing better fighting this illness. Thanks for all the email, texts, and phone calls. What a slow, boring news day today. Here's some stuff I noticed this Monday afternoon..

It's now legal to hunt coyotes and wild peegs at night in SC. Whoo-hoo!

Locally, Mayor Knox White said today the city intends to hire assistant city manager John Castile to the top executive position. Castile, 44, has been with the city 15 years and played a key role in some of its most controversial and high-profile projects. The council is scheduled to vote on the issue in tonight’s public meeting.

Elin Woods, soon to be ex wife of Tiger Woods will get a $750 million dollar settlement in her divorce,

Ex KKK Grand Wizard Robert C. Byrd, the longest serving member of the U.S. Senate, a fiery orator and hard-charging power broker who steered billions of federal dollars to his beloved West Virginia, died Monday. He was 92.

Ghana, the world's leading 900 sex and psychic telephone providers defeated the USA in World Cup Soccer over the weekend. Thus ending the World Cup interest for everyone in America. With apologies to the 27 people here in the US still interested.

Sorry Commies, the Supreme Court ruled Monday that the Constitution's “right to keep and bear arms” applies nationwide as a restraint on the ability of the federal, state and local governments to substantially limit its reach. In doing so, the justices, by a narrow 5-4 margin, signaled that less severe restrictions could survive legal challenges. FYI- this is the 2nd ammendment of the US Constitution. What's scary to me is that 4 justices wanted to REPEAL it.

Speaking of SCOTUS, Elana Kagan begins her trek today towards a seat on the bench At Kagan's hearings, liberals will seek assurances that she is truly one of their own, while conservatives will test whether she's acceptably within their definition of the mainstream.

Folks in Winston Salem, NC are tired of all the gang graffiti so they're gonna restrict sales of spray paint to teenagers. Of course this course of action has worked SO well for cigarettes and beer...

I missed last night's BET Awards, but I did catch a YouTube video of El Debarge tearing it up. Prince received BET's lifetime achievement award. Ti and Chris Brown also made what the press are calling "comebacks" on the show.

The next DC Animated release will be called "Superman/Batman: Apocalypse," based on the second Superman/Batman story line. The animated "Batman: Under The Red hood" comes out July 27th.

The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws has opened an office in Asheville, NC. I'd thought Asheville would actually BE the headquarters.

Britain's Foreign Office named the United States embassy Monday as the worst offender among diplomatic missions that have racked up 36 million pounds ($54 million) in disputed traffic congestion charges.

Doctors could one day use a blood test to predict decades in advance when women will go into menopause. Here's the story: click HERE

Today's big news in the oily Gulf of Mexico, forecasters say Tropical Storm Alex will likely become a hurricane on Tuesday.

and finally

The online version of the Greenville News will no longer be free as of this Thursday, July 1st. Among the 3 tiered available subscriptions will be access to the GreenvilleOnline.com website for $9.95 monthly, which is the cheapest. I understand that Gannett's back is against the wall. Newspapers everywhere are closing shop. The comments at the website have been predictably against the action. The announcement was like one of those "future endeavors" termination announcements.

What's on your mind?

Good Thursday Afternoon!

HAHAHAHA! The White House party crashers, Michaele and Tareq Salahi, were stopped in a limo near the White House Wednesday evening as President Barack Obama was holding his second official state dinner. The limo driver ran through a red light around 8 p.m., just blocks from the White House and was stopped by a uniformed Secret Service officer, according to Secret Service spokesman Edwin Donovan. The driver had signaled to turn into a restricted area near the Ellipse. The attention-hungry couple was among those in the limo. They were released and went to dinner a few blocks from the White House after the incident. The limo driver was issued an infraction for running the red light.

No "Broke Back" goins on in Malawi anymore. A judge sentenced a couple to the maximum 14 years in prison with hard labor under Malawi's anti-gay legislation, and crowds jeered the two men as they were driven from the court house to jail Thursday.

An Englewood Florida woman was shocked when her new driver's license sent in the mail listed her address as "Eat ASS." Initially, Ashlee Lineberger assumed it was a joke, but upon further investigation, she found that it was indeed a legitimate license - See the card and video HERE

Comedian and talk show host Craig Kilborn is to return to TV screens with a new daily talk show this summer. 'The Kilborn File' will debut June 28th for a six-week run on Fox television stations in in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Austin and Detroit. As has been widely reported, Kilborn will produce and host the half-hour show, which will feature his take on current affairs and pop culture. Guests will join him for recurring segments such as his signature 'Five Questions', and take part in a 'Power Panel', which will discuss the day's big issues. Announcing the show, Greg Meidel, President, Twentieth Television, said that the new show will see Kilborn placing "his unique comedy stamp on the talk show format."

and finally, An investigation by The Colorado Division of Gaming determined that the correct prize for a woman's $42.9 million slot machine jackpot is actually $20.18. In late March, a Colorado woman at Fortune Valley Casino in Central City received a false jackpot message when her penny slot machine announced a winnings of $42.9 million -- far more than the posted sum of $251, 000. The woman, Louise Chavez, says she's owed the full jackpot. A spokesman for the Colorado Gaming Division, however, said the top prize was clearly posted in the casino and as such Chavez's winnings are attributable only to a software glitch. Fortune Valley Casino had previously paid Chavez $23.43 for her prize, including $10 in unused credit still in the slot machine. Her $7 of unpaid winnings will be paid by the slot machine manufacturer, WMS Gaming.

I just read where U2 is STILL touring out on the “left coast” in support of the 360 movie. This kinda saddens me in a way. I was hoping for a GOOD album soon, not the mediocrity of the past 2 releases. A great band burning so bright. I gotta wonder how long it’s gonna last. The Rolling Stones just released an updated version of the 1973 album “Exile on Main Street” featuring 10 new tracks that were “thrown away” during the original recordings. Included are new versions of 'Soul Survivor' and 'Loving Cup'.

Thought this “Periodic Table of Super Powers” was kinda net… http://www.blogcdn.com/www.comicsalliance.com/media/2010/05/periodictable-2.jpg

It appears ABC and NBC are jumping on the superhero bandwagon with each introducing superhero themed shows for this fall. NBC’s “The Cape” features “a good cop framed for a crime he didn’t commit” scenario. The pilot actually looks decent; not good, to me anyway. I KNOW the luster will soon fade and this show will end as quickly as it’s appearing. Here’s a link ot the trailer - http://www.nbc.com/the-cape/video/the-cape-full-length-trailer/1228325/?dst=nbc%7Cwidget%7CNBC+Video&__source=nbc%7Cwidget%7CNBC+Video

ABC has “No Ordinary Family”. It has Michael Chiklis in a familiar “Fantastic Four” role. While vacationing near the Amazon River, the family’s plane crashes into a section of the river that has a strange phosphorous glow! They all live and come back home to discover each family member has “super human” abilities. I expected something different form the company that owns Disney/Marvel. Like NBC’s “The Cape’, this show will probably lose favor and interest and be cancelled. But not until the 2nd or 3rd season. Here is the Link: http://www.latimes.com/videobeta/dde7045d-9221-4c80-b922-943f71a6172f/Entertainment/-No-Ordinary-Family-on-ABC

More than 1 million baby slings made by Infantino were recalled Wednesday after claims linking them to three infant deaths. The Consumer Product Safety Commission said babies could suffocate in the soft fabric slings. The agency urged parents to immediately stop using the slings for babies under 4 months.
The recall involves 1 million Infantino "SlingRider" and "Wendy Bellissimo" slings in the United States and 15,000 in Canada

A story floating around the internet is stating that the food portions on the plates of Jesus and his disciples in the famous depiction of "The Last Supper" has increased over the years. Historians believe the actual meal was much less at that time than depicted in recent paintings.

Sting, Elton John, Lady Gaga and Dame Shirley Bassey will perform together at Carnegie Hall, as part of the bi-annual Rainforest Fund benefit concert on May 13. The event will mark the 21st birthday of the charitable organization founded by Sting and Trudie Styler to help protect and preserve the world's threatened rainforest areas.

and finally, The Indian military has a new weapon against terrorism: the world's hottest chili. After conducting tests, the military has decided to use the thumb-sized "bhut jolokia," or "ghost chili," to make tear gas-like hand grenades to immobilize suspects, defense officials said Tuesday. The bhut jolokia was accepted by Guinness World Records in 2007 as the world's spiciest chili. It is grown and eaten in India's northeast for its taste, as a cure for stomach troubles and a way to fight the crippling summer heat. It has more than 1,000,000 Scoville units, the scientific measurement of a chili's spiciness. Classic Tabasco sauce ranges from 2,500 to 5,000 Scoville units, while jalapeno peppers measure anywhere from 2,500 to 8,000. "The chili grenade has been found fit for use after trials in Indian defense laboratories, a fact confirmed by scientists at the Defense Research and Development Organization," Col. R. Kalia, a defense spokesman in the northeastern state of Assam, told The Associated Press.

Another Reason Why Batman is Better Than Superman

Happy Monday

Even though I was rooting for Peyton and the Colts, kudos to the New Orleans Saints.
In my opinion, the Saints were smart to gamble on the 2nd half onside KO. To me, that was the game breaker. Keeping Manning off the field for 70 freaking minutes and breaking his momentum was the key. If the Saints had not recovered the onside kick, the Colts probably would have blown them away.

Congratulations again to the New Orleans Saints and their 1st NFL Championship!!

Now can we PLEASE stop bringing up Katrina?!?!?!

Love the commercials this year. The E-Trade baby has lost or is losing his appeal to me, the Puxatawny Palamalu was HILARIOUS!!

All in all, the Super Bowl is 100% different when "you don't have a horse in the race"; "a dog in the hunt". Insert your own cliche here..

GOOOD responses to my weekend blog about local weekend radio/TV.

Some interesting stuff on Yahoo! News this morning.
